Japan Anual Inflation Rate Down to -0.40 Percent in October

The consumer price index for Japan in October 2012 was 99.6(2010=100), the same level as the previous month, and down 0.4 percent over the year.

Fuel, up 3.8 percent year over year; Transportation and communication, up 0.8 percent year over year; and Education, up 0.4 percent year over year, contributed the most to the increase in inflation.

Culture and recreation, down 2.0 percent year over year, and furniture and household utensils, down 1.8 percent year over year, were responsible for the largest downward pressure on inflation.
The consumer price index for Ku-area of Tokyo in November 2012(preliminary) was 98.7(2010=100), down 0.4 percent from the previous month, and down 0.5 percent over the year.
