Japan's Economy Contracts 0.9 Percent in Q3

Japan’s economy contracted by 0.9 per cent in the third quarter, against expectation, as a result of weak exports and softer consumer spending while public investment in last year disaster-stricken region faded.

Private consumption was up just 0.3 percent on quarter. In the previous three months consumer spending rose 1.1 per cent. External demand eased 1.2 percentage point from GDP, while domestic demand added 1.1 point, the data showed. Public investment rose 0.9 per cent from the second quarter. Net exports cut 1.4 percentage points from gross domestic product.
