Year-on-year, the biggest price increases were reported for: fuel, light and water (+5.3 percent); food (+5.1 percent); furniture and household utensils (+4.2 percent); culture and recreation (+4.7 percent); transportation and communication (+2.4 percent); clothes and footwear (+2.8 percent) and education (+2.2 percent). Cost of housing grew only 0.1 percent.
Core consumer prices rose 3 percent from a year earlier, easing further from a 3.1 percent increase in the previous month. The so-called core-core inflation index, which excludes food and energy prices rose 2.3 percent.
The consumer price index for Ku-area of Tokyo in October 2014 (preliminary) was 102.2 (2010=100), down 0.1 percent from the previous month, and up 2.5 percent over the year. Core consumer prices in Tokyo, available a month before the nationwide data, rose 2.5 percent from a year earlier.
