Japan Annual Inflation Rate Up to -0.3 Percent in September


The consumer price index for Japan in September 2012 was 99.6(2010=100), up 0.1% from the previous month, and down 0.3% over the year.

Fuel, up 4.3 percent year over year; education, up 0.4 percent year over year; and transportation and communication, up 0.3 percent year over year, contributed the most to the increase in inflation.

Culture and recreation, down 2.1 percent year over year, and furniture and household utensils, down 2.1 percent year over year, were responsible for the largest downward pressure on inflation.

The consumer price index for Ku-area of Tokyo in October 2012(preliminary) was 99.0(2010=100), up 0.1% from the previous month, and down 0.8% over the year.
