Japan’s Unemployment Rate Fell to 4.5% in May

Japan’s unemployment rate unexpectedly declined in May as more people stopped looking for work after the nation’s largest earthquake on record.

The number of employed persons in May 2011 was 60.19 million, an increase of 90 thousand or 0.1% from the previous year.

The number of unemployed persons in May 2011 was 2.93 million, a decrease of 380 thousand or 11.5% from the previous year.
