In May, compared to the previous year, price decreases were reported for Furniture and household utensils (-2.5%), Culture and recreation (-1.6%), Food (-1.5%), Housing (-0.4%) and Medical Care (-0.8%). Fuel, light and water charges increased the most (4.6%), followed by Education (0.5%) and Transportation (0.5%).
Compared to the previous month, prices of furniture and household utensils, food, housing and clothes and footwear decreased. The biggest gains were registered for Fuel, light and water charges (4.6%), Clothes and footwear (2.2%) and Culture and Recreation (0.3%).
In May, core inflation which excludes both food and energy, was down 0.4 percent on year and up 0.1 percent compared to April.
The consumer price index for Ku-area of Tokyo in June 2013(preliminary) was 98.9(2010=100), down 0.1% from the previous month, and the same level as the previous year.
