Japan's Inflation Rate Remains Unchanged in March


The consumer price index for Japan in March 2011 was 99.6 (2005=100), up 0.3% from the previous month, and the same level as previous year. Core inflation fell 0.7 percent on year in March.

Among the individual components, education costs were down 13.0 percent on year, while furniture was down 3.3 percent, housing was down 0.4 percent and recreation was down 0.6 percent. Moving higher were prices for fuel, up 2.5 percent on year, while transportation and communication was up 1.7 percent and food was up 0.1 percent.

The consumer price index for Ku-area of Tokyo in April 2011 (preliminary) was 99.1(2005=100), up 0.3% from the previous month, and down 0.1% over the year.
