Housing Starts Multi Family in the US refer to the number of new buildings with five units or more that have started construction during any particular month, intended primarily as a housekeeping residential building designed for non-transient occupancy. All housing units in a multifamily building are counted as started when excavation of the foundations begins. It excludes publicly owned, or government-built, housing.
