The number of people infected with the coronavirus in the US rose by 229,000 on Thursday, bringing the nationwide total to 23.3 million, according to data released by the Johns Hopkins University. The world's largest economy is also facing its deadliest period of the pandemic so far, with daily fatalities averaging over 3,300 each day over the past week. So far 11.1 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine have been administered, according to data from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
