The number of unemployed people fell by 0.7 percent from a month earlier to 1.45 million in September, while employment was up 0.1 percent to 41.56 million.
Compared with September 2017, unemployment dropped by 8.8 percent from 1.59 million people and the number of employed declined by 0.3 percent from 41.70 million.
Youth unemployment rate, measuring job-seekers under 25 years old, held steady at 6.3 percent in September.
Separate data from the Labour Office showed the seasonally adjusted number of unemployed in Germany fell by 11 thousand from a month earlier to 2.29 million in October after a 23 thousand drop in September and slightly below market consensus of a 12 thousand decline. The unemployment rate was unchanged at 5.1 percent in October, the lowest since German reunification in 1990.
