Germany Unemployment Rate at 5%

German seasonally adjusted jobless rate remained steady at 5 percent in September of 2014, provisional figures from the Federal Statistics Office showed. Employment was marginally unchanged and unemployment fell 0.5 percent.

The unemployment rate for August was revised to 5 percent from an initially estimate of 4.9 percent. 

In September of 2014, roughly 2.09 million people were unemployed, 108,000 fewer than a year earlier according to provisional calculations of the Federal Statistical Office. Compared with September 2013, this was an increase of 387,000 persons. The year-on-year growth rate thus remained stable at 0.9 percent, as in the months from May to August. Adjusted for seasonal and irregular effects, the number of unemployed stood at 2.14 million. 

The number of persons in employment increased by 191,000, or 0.4 percent, in September 2014 on August 2014, which was due to the starting autumn upturn. On an average of the last five years, the increase in the number of persons in employment in September on the relevant previous month had been slightly higher (212,000 people). After seasonal adjustment, the number of persons in employment grew slightly by 19,000 in September 2014 compared with the previous month.
