Germany Unemployment Rate Stable at 4.7%



German seasonally adjusted harmonised jobless rate was recorded at 4.7 percent for the fourth consecutive month in May. While unemployment continued to fall, employment showed no growth.

Compared to the previous month, the number of unemployed persons edged down 0.5 percent to 1.97 million from 1.98 million in April. Employment decreased slightly to 39.88 million people from 39.89 million, thus reporting no change when compared to April.

Compared with May 2014, unemployment fell 5.7 percent (from 2.09 million people in the previous year) while employment grew 0.4 percent (from 39.74 million people).

Youth unemployment rate was steady at 7.1 percent, compared to an downwardly revised 7.1 percent in April. While it decreased from 7.8 percent a year earlier. 

Separate data from the Labour Office showed the number of unemployed persons decreased by 1000 to 2.7 million in June. The unemployment rate remained steady at a record low 6.4 percent.
