Compared to the previous month, the number of unemployed persons was recorded at 1.91 million, the same as in November, while employment went up by only 0.1 percent to 40.24 million people from 40.19 million in the previous month.
Compared with December of 2014, unemployment dropped 6.4 percent from 2.04 million people while employment rose 0.8 percent from 39.92 million people.
Youth unemployment rate was recorded at 7 percent, the same as in the previous month and down from 7.3 percent a year earlier.
Separate data from the Labour Office showed the number of unemployed persons fell by a higher-than-expected 20,000 to 2.732 million in January of 2016. The unemployment rate fell to a fresh record low of 6.2 percent.
