Eurozone Inflation Rate Falls to 9-Month Low

The annual inflation rate in the Euro Area is expected to ease further to 1.4 percent in January 2019 from 1.6 percent in the previous month and in line with market consensus, a preliminary estimate showed. This should be the lowest rate since April.

Looking at the main components of euro area inflation, energy is expected to have the highest annual rate in January (2.6 percent), followed by food, alcohol & tobacco (1.8 percent), services (1.6 percent) and non-energy industrial goods (0.3 percent).

The annual core inflation, which excludes volatile prices of energy, food, alcohol & tobacco and at which the ECB looks in its policy decisions, is likely to edge higher to 1.1 percent in January from 1 percent in December and slightly above market consensus of 1 percent.
