Redwood Trust, Inc. is a specialty finance company, which is focused on several distinct areas of housing credit. The Company delivers customizes housing credit investments to a diverse mix of investors, through its platforms; whole-loan distribution activities; and its publicly traded shares. The Company operates through three segments. Residential Lending segment consists of a mortgage loan conduit that acquires residential loans from third-party originators for subsequent sale, securitization or transfer into its investment portfolio, as well as the investments it retains from these activities. Business Purpose Lending segment consists of a platform that originates and acquires business purpose loans for subsequent securitization or transfer into its investment portfolio, as well as the investments it retains from these activities. Third-Party Investments segment consists of investments in residential mortgage-backed securities (RMBS) issued by third parties.
