US Tech Stocks Rebound After Last Week's Rout

2026-10-19 13:36 By Andre Joaquim 1 min. read

US stocks were mixed as a rebound in heavyweight AI infrastructure stocks offset muted movement in broader sectors.

Tech gains lifted the S&P 500 by 0.5% and the Nasdaq 100 by 1.2%, while the Dow inched below the flatline.

The advance contrasted with tech weakness last week, when underwhelming financial results from Anthropic and signs of debt stress among cloud providers, especially CoreWeave, dented demand for speculative positions in the sector.

Dip buyers lifted AMD, Micron, Lam Research, and SanDisk by around 5% each.

Also, CoreWeave rebounded to an 8% gain.

The credit stress in the sector had also softened concerns that the US Treasury would be further crowded out of capital by primary dealers, lowering longer-term yields.

Banks were muted following their earnings week, while Meta and Tesla inched down ahead of their earnings results this week.

US Futures Waver
Futures tracking US stocks were mostly lower on Tuesday as the tech sector remained volatile on fresh worries about data center financing ahead of key earnings results. Contracts for the S&P 500 were slightly down, while those for the Nasdaq 100 fell 0.6% and the Dow was flat. South Korean AI-infrastructure provider Elice plunged 32% following its IPO in Seoul, the latest in a series of signals that markets have grown fatigued by the soaring levels of financing that chipmakers and data center operators are asking for. CoreWeave sank 5% premarket following the plunge in its bonds last week. Micron, Marvell, and Arm were nearly 3% lower. Meanwhile, SpaceX dropped 1% ahead of its recently announced earnings results due after the closing bell, which may have been brought forward to enable another capital raise. On the other hand, traditional economic sectors consolidated following losses yesterday. Walmart, ExxonMobil, and Eli Lilly gained over 1%.

US Futures Edge Higher After Tech Rebound
US stock futures edged higher on Tuesday after the major indexes opened the week with gains, supported by a recovery in technology shares. Futures tied to the Dow Jones, S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 each advanced at least 0.1%. During Monday’s regular session, the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite rose 0.41% and 1.11%, respectively, rebounding from last week’s sharp selloff driven by growing concerns over AI financing. Chipmakers and other mega-cap stocks led the recovery, with Micron gaining 3%, Nvidia rising 1.4%, Sandisk climbing 5.5%, Amazon advancing 5% and Tesla adding 3.8%. Investors are now preparing for a busy corporate earnings schedule on Tuesday, with reports expected from General Electric, Netflix, Raytheon Technologies, United Airlines and General Motors, among others. On the economic front, traders will also monitor housing starts and pending home sales data for further signals on the US housing market.
