US Futures Edge Lower Amid Market Caution

2026-10-16 00:20 By Jam Kaimo Samonte 1 min. read

US stock futures declined on Friday as investor caution prevailed while while evaluating the outlook for artificial intelligence and related technologies.

S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 futures fell 0.2% and 0.5%, respectively.

During Thursday’s regular session, the Dow climbed 1.08%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite advanced 0.33% and 0.08%, respectively.

The gains came as selling pressure on chip stocks eased after Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang defended the financial position of AI computing provider CoreWeave Inc. Companies such as CoreWeave have taken on substantial debt with backing from suppliers, including Nvidia, raising concerns that circular financing arrangements could be generating artificial demand.

Meanwhile, Anthropic reportedly told investors that its third-quarter revenue stood at $16.8 billion.

For the week, the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite was on track to fall more than 2%, while the S&P 500 was down nearly 1%.

The Dow was poised to post a weekly gain of around 1%.

US Stocks Rebound as Chipmaker Selloff Eases
US stock indices closed higher on Thursday, rebounding from earlier losses as the selloff in AI infrastructure stocks eased. The S&P 500 gained 0.3%, the Nasdaq closed near flat, and the Dow added 557 points. Chipmakers and AI hyperscalers pared losses after Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang pushed back against concerns about CoreWeave (+5.9%), saying he did not believe the company would need a bailout from Nvidia. The data center firm is an important test case for the viability of businesses emerging to meet surging demand for AI computing. Companies like CoreWeave have borrowed heavily with support from suppliers, including Nvidia (-1.8%), fueling concerns that circular financing may be creating artificial demand. Most hyperscalers closed higher, with Microsoft up 1.1% and Oracle gaining 3%. The chip selloff slowed sharply, with Broadcom down 0.6%, AMD losing 1.5%, while Micron rose 1.9%. The Dow was supported by a rally in Treasuries after a rout that had propelled yields to multi-year highs.
