US Stock Futures Slip as Treasury Yields Stay Elevated

2026-10-05 11:01 By Agna Gabriel 1 min. read

US stock futures pointed to a subdued start on Monday, with contracts linked to the Dow Jones, S&P 500 and Nasdaq-100 each down less than 0.2%.

Investor caution was driven mainly by elevated Treasury yields ahead of the Federal Reserve’s policy meeting later this week.

The 10-year Treasury yield climbed to its highest level in more than two decades, raising concerns that rising borrowing costs could pressure equity valuations even if the Fed keeps interest rates unchanged in the near term.

Markets are also digesting last week’s disappointing jobs data, which reduced expectations of another rate increase this month and offered some relief after a sharp rise in bond yields.

Attention now turns to several key economic releases.

Monday’s focus is the Institute for Supply Management’s services activity report, followed by minutes from the Fed’s September meeting on Wednesday.

Investors will also assess the University of Michigan’s preliminary October consumer sentiment reading on Friday.

US Stocks Mixed as Treasury Yields Stay Elevated
US equities traded mixed on Monday as investors remained cautious ahead of the Federal Reserve’s policy meeting later this week. The S&P 500 gained 0.2%, and the Nasdaq-100 advanced 0.3%, while the Dow Jones declined by more than 100 points. Elevated Treasury yields remained a key concern, with the 10-year yield reaching its highest level in more than two decades and raising questions about the impact of higher borrowing costs on equity valuations. Individual technology stocks also drove notable moves. Intel fell almost 2% following reports that Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. may be discussing a potential collaboration with Elon Musk’s Terafab initiative, which Intel joined in April. In contrast, Cerebras Systems surged after OpenAI CEO Sam Altman described the company as a close partner and highlighted the two firms’ work together on high-speed computing.
