US Stocks Pull Back

2026-07-22 13:38 By Andre Joaquim 1 min. read

US stock indices were mostly lower on Wednesday as a reversal to the AI rally was combined with the outlook of higher interest rates.

The S&P 500 edged down and the Nasdaq 100 fell more than 1%.

Micron, Intel, and Sandisk sank nearly 4% while Nvidia inched lower.

The sector remained volatile reflecting the market's indecisiveness on whether AI hyperscalers will continue to grow orders for hardware.

Insights on the trade are due after the bell with Alphabet's earnings results, the first update after the company's capital expenditure raise last quarter.

Tesla dropped 0.5% as it is also due to report, recently testing its lowest price since April.

Hostilities between US and Iran were magnified after Secretary of State Rubio downplayed hopes of diplomacy, raising energy inflation risks and lifting yields.

Financials fell, with Amex down 1%.

In turn, the Dow was slightly above the flatline.

AT&T gained over 4% after its earnings beat, lifting other telecom companies.
