US Futures Rebound

2026-06-18 11:46 By Andre Joaquim 1 min. read

Futures tracking US equities rebounded on Thursday to erase yesterday's loss as chip producers extended their rally and markets reconsidered risks of a rate hike by the Federal Reserve.

Contracts for the S&P 500 were 1% higher, while those for the Nasdaq 100 gained 2% and the Dow 0.7%.

The Federal Reserve held rates unchanged and half of the FOMC projected that at least one rate hike would be appropriate this year.

The new Chairman, Kevin Warsh, also followed through on pledges to revamp the Fed's operational framework by launching a set of task forces.

Meanwhile, President Trump signed the memorandum of understanding with Iran to soften energy inflation risks.

Intel shares surged more than 8% premarket after the US President said the chipmaker struck a deal with Apple.

In turn, Micron rose ahead of its earnings next week and Nvidia was 1% higher to trim yesterday's decline.

US Futures Flat After Positive Session
US stock futures were little changed on Thursday after the major indexes posted gains in the previous session, as softer inflation data drove Treasury yields lower and supported equities. In regular trading on Wednesday, the Dow advanced 0.29%, the S&P 500 added 0.38%, and the Nasdaq Composite climbed 0.62%, led by gains in the communication services, consumer discretionary, and financial sectors. Both headline and core producer prices came in below expectations in June, reinforcing the weaker CPI report released a day earlier and reducing expectations of a near-term Federal Reserve rate hike. Strong earnings from major financial companies further boosted sentiment by signaling that corporate profit growth remains resilient. Investors are now awaiting Thursday's retail sales and weekly jobless claims data, along with earnings reports from Netflix, UnitedHealth, General Electric, and other major companies.

US Stocks Close Mixed Following PPI report
US stock indices closed mixed on Wednesday as support from soft inflation data offset a selloff in chipmakers. The S&P 500 gained 0.4% and the Dow rose 150 points, while the Nasdaq 100 dropped 0.3%. Both headline and core producer prices undershot expectations in June, reinforcing the soft CPI released a day earlier and reducing the likelihood of a Fed rate hike at its upcoming meeting. The data helped offset concerns over higher energy prices stemming from the escalating conflict between the US and Iran. Morgan Stanley gained 0.2% after posting upbeat results, joining JPMorgan (+1.1%) and Goldman Sachs (+1.1%) in delivering strong earnings. BlackRock surged 6.6% following its results, while J&J (-2.7%) fell after reporting earnings. Meanwhile, hyperscalers rallied, with Microsoft (+2.8%), Amazon (+3%), and Alphabet (+3.2%) advancing after strong results from ASML. On the other hand, losses among heavyweight memory chipmakers and SpaceX (-0.6%) weighed on the Nasdaq.
