Hong Kong Unemployment Rate Up to 3.40 Percent in October


Comparing October 2012 with September 2012, increases in the unemployment rate (not seasonally adjusted) were mainly observed in the accommodation services, transportation and construction sectors. As to the underemployment rate, decreases were mainly seen in the construction and wholesale sectors.

Comparing October 2012 with September 2012, increases in the unemployment rate (not seasonally adjusted) were mainly observed in the accommodation services, transportation and construction sectors. As to the underemployment rate, decreases were mainly seen in the construction and wholesale sectors.

Total employment increased by around 6 000 from 3 658 900 in September 2012 to 3 664 900 in October 2012. Over the same period, the labour force also increased by around 4 100 from 3 791 800 to 3 795 900.
 
The number of unemployed persons (not seasonally adjusted) decreased by around 1 900 from 132 900 in September 2012 to 131 000 in October 2012. Over the same period, the number of underemployed persons also decreased by around 1 800 from 59 200 to 57 400.
