US Stocks Fall Amid Rising Energy Prices

US stock indices closed lower on Tuesday as higher energy prices dented the outlook for corporate margins and increased the risk of higher interest rates.
Traders are also awaiting key inflation data due later this week.
The S&P 500 fell 0.6%, the Nasdaq lost 0.3%, and the Dow shed 628 points.
New strikes between the US and Iran raised concerns over prolonged disruptions to fuel exports from the Persian Gulf, while Houthi attacks damaged Saudi energy infrastructure and reduced its capacity.
Borrowing costs for US companies also rose amid hawkish signals from the Bank of Japan and likely Japanese sales of US Treasuries to support the yen.
Credit-sensitive software stocks declined, with Microsoft losing 1.1%, Palantir down 2.3%, and Amazon shedding 0.6% ahead of its sterling bond offering.
AI companies have increasingly borrowed in foreign currencies as dollar bond markets face a surge in AI-related debt supply.
Meanwhile, Oracle gained 2.4% ahead of earnings this week.
