US Futures Hold Steady After Downbeat Session

2026-09-01 23:35 By Jam Kaimo Samonte 1 min. read

US stock futures stabilized on Wednesday after the major averages posted another losing session, pressured by rising bond yields and oil prices that heightened concerns over inflation and interest rate hikes.

In regular trading on Tuesday, the Dow fell 0.79%, the S&P 500 declined 0.71% and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 1.03%, with all three benchmarks extending their losing streak to a third session.

Seven of the 11 S&P sectors finished lower, led by declines in consumer discretionary, industrials and materials.

The moves came as the global bond selloff intensified, pushing the US 10-year Treasury yield to its highest level since early 2025.

Oil prices also surged amid escalating hostilities between the US and Iran, raising the risk of further disruptions to energy flows from the Middle East.

Investors now await ADP private payrolls data and the Fed’s Beige Book, along with earnings reports from Broadcom, Hewlett Packard and Snowflake, among others.

US Stocks Fall Amid Tighter Financial Conditions
US stock indices closed lower on Tuesday on growing concerns that tighter financial conditions could weigh on economic growth. The S&P 500 fell 0.7%, the Dow lost 419 points and the Nasdaq 100 dropped 1.3%. US-Iran strikes in the Persian Gulf prolonged the suspension of energy exports from the region and heightened global inflation risks, reinforcing expectations that major central banks could resume rate hikes this year. Meanwhile, soaring in AI-related corporate debt issuance added to credit supply and pushed yields higher. Tech stocks led losses, with Micron down 2.6%, AMD falling 2.4%, Oracle and Palo Alto Networks each losing 5.2%, and Dell dropping 6.8%. Nvidia fell 1.5% despite a $35 billion computing deal between Lambda and Anthropic. Asset managers also declined, with Blackstone down 4.6% and KKR falling 3.1%.
