Futures tracking US equity indices were firmly lower on Tuesday on growing concerns that tight financial conditions will hamper economic growth.
Contracts for the S&P 500 and the Dow were 0.5% lower, while those for the Nasdaq 100 fell more than 1%.
Strikes between the US and Iran in the Persian Gulf prolonged the suspension of energy exports from the region and added to pro-inflationary risks on the global economy, consolidating the likelihood that major central banks are due to restart their hiking cycles this year.
On top of that, soaring AI corporate debt issuance added to credit supply and lifted yields further.
Tech stocks led the losses on tightened credit conditions, with Marvell, Intel, and Sandisk dropping more than 2.5%.
Also, Amazon, Tesla, and Nvidia fell over 1%.
