US stock indices closed mixed on Wednesday ahead of Nvidia’s earnings report.

The S&P 500 closed near flat, the Nasdaq inched higher, and the Dow shed 113 points.

Technology stocks mostly advanced ahead of Nvidia’s (-1.6%) results, which are expected to provide clues on capital spending by AI hyperscalers.

Forecasts point to nearly doubled year-on-year revenue, which would mark the fastest growth in two years.

Chipmakers and hyperscalers were mostly higher, with Microsoft up 0.9%, Meta rising 1.1%, Micron adding 0.6%, and AMD gaining 0.4%.

Meta also benefited from a settlement with US states over its social media strategy targeting teenagers.

Meanwhile, Intuit shed 3.2% after its outlook fell short of the higher end of market expectations.

Traditional sectors remained under pressure amid concerns over adverse macroeconomic conditions, while robust consumer spending and income growth, alongside higher-than-expected PCE readings, reinforced expectations for a restrictive Fed.
