US equity futures slumped on Tuesday amid a selloff in the heavyweight tech sector.

Contracts for the Nasdaq 100 slid 3%, the S&P 500 dropped 1.5%, and the Dow lost 0.7%.

AI stocks tanked on increasing skepticism over spending in AI infrastructure by hyperscalers, and whether it will bring returns.

The fears drove Alphabet and Amazon to sink nearly 4% on Monday.

On the same note, SpaceX plunged 16% as it issued bonds only one week after its IPO, adding to fears of colossal spending on AI.

Chip stocks were set to slide as SK Hynix slowed production of advanced AI chips to boost commodity DRAM capacity, also aligned with concerns that AI datacenter speculation does not match fundamentals.

Micron slipped ahead of its earnings tomorrow.

Treasury yields remained elevated despite the decline in energy prices following the hawkish dot plot last week, limiting any respite for traditional sectors of the economy.

Finance was pressured as Apollo once again capped private equity withdrawals.

US Futures Pressured by Rebounding Yields
US stock futures hovered near weekly lows on Friday after major averages faced heavy selling pressure in the previous session, as Treasury yields rebounded amid concerns that the government’s plan to lower borrowing costs may offer only a temporary solution. Rising oil prices, as the US and Iran remain deadlocked over the Strait of Hormuz, also stoked inflation concerns. In regular trading on Thursday, the Dow fell 1.32%, the S&P 500 declined 0.87% and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 1%. Nine of the 11 S&P sectors finished lower, with consumer staples, health care and consumer discretionary stocks leading the declines. Long-term Treasury yields reversed Wednesday’s drop following the Treasury Department’s announcement of larger debt buybacks. In corporate news, Ross Stores jumped more than 8% in extended trading after the retailer posted stronger-than-expected second-quarter results.

US Stocks Fall as Inflation Concerns Mount
US stock indices closed lower on Thursday amid concerns that the Treasury’s plan to curb borrowing costs may provide only a short-term fix, while higher energy prices stoked inflation worries. The S&P 500 lost 0.9%, the Nasdaq fell 0.7% and the Dow shed 704 points. Treasury yields rose across the curve as investors worried that the Treasury’s efforts to support notes and bonds could worsen the inflationary backdrop amid ample dollar liquidity. Borrowing costs were also lifted by higher fuel and gas prices after President Trump said the US had entered an “economic war” with Iran, prolonging blockades of tankers crossing the Persian Gulf. Financials were mostly lower, with JPMorgan down 1.6% and Morgan Stanley losing 3.2%. AI hyperscalers also mostly declined following tepid financial results from OpenAI, which failed to grow at the same pace as rival Anthropic. Walmart sank 9.1%, its sharpest single-session decline in four years, after second-quarter sales fell short of expectations.
