The dollar index rose above 99.5 on Tuesday, advancing for a fifth consecutive session ahead of an expected interest rate hike by the Federal Reserve this week.
Traders are pricing in roughly a 92% chance that the Fed will deliver a 25-basis-point rate hike on Wednesday, which would be its first increase in borrowing costs since 2023.
Policymakers are also set to release updated economic projections, with traders closely watching for signals on the future path of interest rates.
Elsewhere, the Bank of England is widely expected to keep policy unchanged on Thursday, while the Bank of Japan is anticipated to raise rates on Friday.
Meanwhile, higher oil prices have added to inflationary pressures, clouding the inflation outlook and reinforcing expectations for further Fed tightening.
Warnings from CEOs of major technology companies about the potential risks associated with AI also pressured equities, boosting demand for the dollar.
