US Private Job Growth Falters in Late October

US private employers cut an average of 11,250 jobs per week during the four weeks ending October 25, 2025, indicating that the labor market lost momentum in the second half of the month compared with the first two weeks, according to the latest weekly report from ADP Research.

The timing of these private-sector reports has become especially significant, as the government shutdown, now in its second month, has delayed the release of the Labor Department’s closely watched employment data.

Adding to signs of weakness, a separate report from Challenger, Gray & Christmas, Inc. showed last week that US based employers announced 153,074 job cuts in October, the highest total for the month since 2003.
