Australia Jobless Rate Down to 5.7% in July


Australia's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate unexpectedly fell to 5.7 percent in July of 2016 from 5.8 percent in June and below market consensus of 5.8 percent. The economy added 26,200 jobs and the number of unemployed decreased by 5,500.

The seasonally adjusted labour force participation rate came in at 64.9 percent, unchanged from the preceding month.

Employment rose to 11,968,600: full-time employment went down 45,400 to 8,153,900 and part-time employment increased by 71,600 to 3,814,700.

Unemployment decreased to 725,500. The number of unemployed persons looking for full-time work decreased 13,300 to 482,400 and the number of unemployed persons only looking for part-time work increased by 7,800 to 243,100.

Seasonally adjusted aggregate monthly hours worked in all jobs increased 3.7 million hours to 1,660.9 million hours.
