US stock indices rebounded from sharp losses on Monday after the heavyweight chip sector halted its selloff.

The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq 100 gained more than 0.5%, while the Dow added 150 points.

Heavyweight tech stocks were mostly higher as markets continued to gauge whether AI hyperscalers are due to slow spending on AI infrastructure in the next quarters, which have been the source of guidance upgrades for booming chip-manufacturing sector.

Nvidia rose 1.5%, and Alphabet gained 2% ahead of its guidance update on Wednesday, the latest bellwether for both chip and software development capital expenditure.

Meanwhile, fuel prices were elevated amid new attacks between Iran and the US and Houthi threats to attack Saudi tankers on the Red Sea.

Still, yields held their pullback and remained below their recent peaks.

Credit-sensitive bank holding companies remained higher from last week following strong earnings from the sector.

Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan added 1% each.
