US stocks finished mixed on Monday, with the S&P 500 edging down 0.1%, the Nasdaq falling 0.5%, and the Dow Jones rising 160 points, as traders continued to monitor developments in the Middle East and assess whether the US and Iran could reach a deal.
Technology stocks led the declines and were the worst-performing sector, while energy, consumer staples, and financials posted solid gains.
Seagate tumbled nearly 7% after its CEO said at a JPMorgan conference that building new factories would “take too long”.
The remarks also weighed on other chipmakers, with Micron Technology falling 6%, as investors grew more concerned that the memory-chip industry may lack the capacity to meet surging demand.
Nvidia (-1.3%), Apple (-0.8%), Meta (-0.5%) and Broadcom (-1.1%) were also lower.
Tesla fell 2.9% after the planned SpaceX initial public offering raised concerns about increased competition for investor capital and potential distractions for management attention.
