US stocks fell on Thursday as energy prices extended their surge and magnified risks of stagflation.
The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq 100 fell more than 1%, while the Dow dropped 0.7%.
President Trump pushed back against the idea of a deal with Iran he had signaled earlier during a Cabinet Meeting, erasing the likelihood of a near end the war between the countries that has resulted in the halt of exports from the Persian Gulf.
Treasury yields rose across the curve and raised benchmark credit costs, pressuring speculative AI stocks with Micron, AMD, Intel, and Palantir dropping more than 4%.
Also, memory chips dropped after Alphabet publicized research of more efficient AI models, driving Lam Research and Applied Materials to sink 4%.
On top of that, Meta tanked nearly 7% amid the announcement of layoffs and the impact of US jury finding the company's social media harmful to young people.
Meanwhile, Jefferies inched higher despite flagging problems from private credit in its earnings.
