US equity indices fell sharply on Monday, erasing gains from the previous session as renewed uncertainty over the future of US trade policy drove markets to trim positions on riskier assets.

The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq 100 dropped 1.2%, while the Dow fell 800 points.

US President Trump raised 15% tariffs on all countries under Section 122 economic emergency, driving major trading partners to suspend the implementation of the trade deals that were previously agreed with the US, and raising uncertainty on how the administration would attempt to extend tariffs as Congress is unlikely to accept the measures.

The moves followed the Supreme Court's decision to strike down tariffs targeted against countries since April of last year.

Software giants and payment operators took fresh losses on AI displacement fears, with Oracle and Palantir dropping 4%, while American Express tanked 7% to pressure the Dow.

Lastly, Nvidia was slightly higher ahead of its earnings this week.
