US Energy Prices Up in January

The energy index in the US rose by 1% over the past 12 months in January 2025, after five consecutive months of declines.
Prices increased for utility (piped) gas service (+4.9% vs +4,9% in December) and electricity (+1.9% vs 2.8%), but declined for fuel oil (-5.3% vs -5.3%) and gasoline (-0.2% vs -3.4%).
On a monthly basis, energy prices rose by 1.1% in January, slowing from a 2.4% increase in the prior month.
