Turkey Unemployment Rate Up to 9.6 Percent In December

In December of 2012, the number of seasonally adjusted employed persons decreased by 36 thousand and the number of unemployed persons increased by 20 thousand compared to the previous period.

Seasonally adjusted labour force participation rate was 50.9 percent, 0.1 percentage points decrease from the previous period and employment rate realized was 46 percent, 0.1 percentage points decrease. Unemployment rate was 9.6 percent, up by 0.1 percentage points.

In unadjusted terms, labour force participation rate was 50 percent, with 1.5 percentage points increase compared to the same period of the previous year for Turkey in December of 2012. Of those who were employed in December of 2012, 23 percent was employed in agriculture, 19.6 percent was employed in industry, 6.7 percent was employed in construction and 50.8 percent was employed in services. 
Employment in construction increased by 0.3 percentage points and in services increased by 0.7 percentage points while that of agriculture decreased by 0.6 percentage points and industry decreased by 0.2 percentage points.
