Gallium
Gallium is a soft, silvery-white metal, similar to aluminum. It is an important component of many semiconductors. It is a useful silicon substitute for the electronics industry and it is also used in red LEDs.China accounts for more than 80% of global low-grade primary gallium capacity. Germany, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Russia, and Ukraine are also significant producers. Futures are available for trading in the Shanghai Metal Market (SMM). Futures contracts for Gallium are financial instruments that allow producers, large consumers, and speculators, to offset or assume the risk of a price change of holding a quantity of Gallium over time.
