Spain Inflation Hits the Lowest Since 2010

The annual inflation rate in Spain was recorded at -0.5 percent in August of 2014, confirming the preliminary estimates, as a fall in food and transport cost was able to offset higher housing prices. The rate was the lowest since 2010.

Year-on-year, downward pressures came from lower prices of transport (-0.4 percent in August of 2014 from -0.1 percent in July) and food and non-alcoholic beverages (-2.2 percent from 2.0 percent).

Cost of housing rose 0.9 percent compared with a 1.2 percent increase in July.

The core inflation rate (excluding food and energy) was 0.0 percent year-on-year in August of 2014.

In August, the annual rate of change of the Harmonised Index Consumer Price (HICP) fell 0.5 percent.
