Portuguese GDP Expands 0.2% QoQ in Q3

The Portuguese economy advanced 0.2 percent on quarter in the three months to September, slowing from a 0.3 percent expansion in the previous period. The growth was driven by private consumption while contribution from net exports was negative.

Year-on-year, the GDP expanded 1 percent, up from a 0.9 percent growth in the second quarter. Domestic demand fuelled the expansion, mainly reflecting the household spending. Net external demand contributed negatively to the expansion as imports growth accelerated and exports growth remained the same.

The Portuguese government targets 1 percent growth for 2014.
