Switzerland Inflation Rate Down to -0.3% YoY in October

In October, Swiss annual inflation dropped 0.3 percent, down from a 0.1 percent fall in September, due to a decrease in clothing, healthcare and transportation prices.

The biggest downward pressures on the national index came from clothing and footwear (-4.7 percent), household equipment (-1.9 percent), and transportation (-1.2 percent). Other price decreases were registered in communication (-1.1 percent), and health care (-0.7 percent).

The biggest price rises were registered in education (+2.1 percent) and alcoholic beverages and tobacco (+1.1 percent). Prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages went up by 0.9 percent, while restaurants and hotels increased 0.8 percent, and energy cost rose 0.2 percent.

On a monthly basis prices fell 0.1 percent, driven mainly by lower prices for oil and oil products, meat and fruit and vegetables.
