Pakistan Trade Deficit Widens in January


Pakistan has registered a trade deficit of 169.6bn Rupees in January, compared to 165.5bn Rupees in the previous month.

According to the provisional figures compiled by the  Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, exports from Pakistan during January of 2013 amounted to Rs. 197,202 million (provisional) as against Rs. 191,408 million (provisional) in December of 2012 and Rs.172,701 million during January of 2012 showing an increase of 3% over December of 2012 and of 14.2% over December of 2011.

Imports into Pakistan during December, 2012 amounted to Rs.366,823 million (provisional) as against Rs. 356,899 million (provisional) in December of 2012 and Rs.328,907 million during January of 2012 showing an increase of 2.8% over December of 2012 and an increase of 11.5% over January of 2012.
 
Based on the provisional figures of imports and exports the balance of trade in December of 2012 was (-) 169,621 million in terms of Rupees and  (-) 1,740 million in US dollars. The balance of trade figures cumulative from July - January of 2012 were (-) 1,111,495 million in terms of Rupees and (-) 11,617 million in US dollars.
