In June of 2013, exports amounted to PKR 216.6 billion, up by 1.22 percent over May of 2013 and by 7.67 percent over June of 2012.
Year-on-year, shipments of sugar increased 549 percent; rice went up by 37.7 percent; cotton yard by 18 percent and readymade garments by 15.5 percent. In contrast, exports of rice basmati and towels shrank by 14 percent and 5.7 percent, respectively.
In June, imports amounted to PKR 388.4 billion, down by 9.16 percent month-over-month, but up by 3.70 percent over June of 2012.
Year-on-year, imports of medicinal products increased 57.7 percent; mobile phones rose 28 percent and iron and steel went up by 14 percent. Imports of palm oil contracted 45 percent and fertilizer declined 44.7 percent.
During July-June, 2012 – 2013, both exports and imports increased by 12.38 percent and 8.5 percent, respectively.
