Pakistan Trade Deficit Widens In March


In March, Pakistan trade deficit widened 42.98 percent to 216,831 million Rupees from the 151,648 million Rupees registered in the previous month, as imports increased more than exports.

According to provisional figures compiled by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, in March exports amounted to 209,274 million Rupees as against 179,817 million Rupees reported in February of 2013 and 317,229 million Rupees in March of 2012. Therefore, showing an increase of 16.38 percent over February of 2013 and of 16.95 percent over March of 2012.

In March of 2013, imports were worth 426,105 million Rupees as against 331,465 million Rupees in February of 2013 and 317,229 million Rupees in March of 2012. Therefore, showing an increase of 28.55 percent over February of 2013 and of 34.32 percent over March of 2012.

The accumulative trade deficit for the first 9 months (July – March) of the fiscal year 2012-13 accounted to 1,481,935 million Rupees.
