Egypt Inflation Rate up to 8-Month High


Egyptian annual inflation rate accelerated for the second straight month to 11.49 percent in August from 11.04 percent in July.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased 1.09 percent compared to 3.51 percent in July. Core CPI, which strips out subsidized goods and volatile items such as fruit and vegetables rose 0.60 percent in August compared to 1.79 percent in July. The annual rate increased to 10.07 percent.

The central bank left rates unchanged earlier in September, following a 100 bps hike in July.
