Baltic Exchange Dry Index
The Baltic Dry Index is reported daily by the Baltic Exchange in London. The index provides a benchmark for the price of moving the major raw materials by sea. The index is a composite of three sub-indices that measure different sizes of dry bulk carriers: Capesize, which typically transport iron ore or coal cargoes of about 150,000 tonnes; Panamax, which usually carry coal or grain cargoes of about 60,000 to 70,000 tonnes; and Supramax, with a carrying capacity between 48,000 and 60,000 tonnes. The Baltic Dry Index takes into account 23 different shipping routes carrying coal, iron ore, grains and many other commodities.

Baltic Dry Index Up to 2-Month High
The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk freight index, which monitors rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities, was up for a fifth straight session on Wednesday, climbing by 4.3% to its highest since June 3 at 3,063 points, mainly supported by the larger segments. The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes including iron ore and coal, surged by 6.6% to a peak since June 3 at 5,094 points; and the panamax index, which tracks vessels carrying around 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, rose by 2.2% to its highest since July 17 at 2,236 points. On the other hand, the supramax index fell by 0.1% to 1,612 points.

Baltic Dry Index at 3-Week High
The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk freight index, which monitors rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities, advanced for a fourth straight session on Tuesday, rising about 3.3% to a three-week high of 2,936 points. The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes including iron ore and coal, surged by 4.7% to its highest level since June 5 at 4,778 points; and the panamax index, which tracks vessels carrying around 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, rose 2.4% to a peak since July 20 at 2,187 points. Among smaller vessels, the supramax index went up by 0.2% to 1,613 points.

Baltic Dry Index Extends Gains to Over 2-Week High
The Baltic dry index surged 4.1% to 2,843 on Monday, its highest level since July 15. The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes, including iron ore and coal, soared 6.2% to an over two-week high of 4,564. The panamax index, which usually carries 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, rose 2.3% to 2,135, its highest level since July 21. Also, the supramax index increased to 1,610.
