US Building Permits Fall the Most in 5 Months

Building permits in the United States fell by 1.2% to a seasonally adjusted annualized rate of 1.456 million in February of 2025, slightly higher than market expectations of 1.450 million, preliminary data showed.
It was the biggest drop in five months.
Single-family permits went down by 0.2% to an annualized rate of 992 thousand, while permits for buildings with five or more units dropped by 4.3% to 404 thousand.
Among different regions, permits fell in the Northeast (-15.3% to 116 thousand), and the West (-7.6% to 290 thousand).
On the other hand, permits increased in the South (1% to 806 thousand) and the Midwest (8.9% to 224 thousand).
