Borregaard ASA is a Norway-based company engaged in the operation of bio refineries. It produces biochemicals and biomaterials that can replace oil-based products. Borregaard is organized into four divisions: Borregaard ChemCell (Specialty Cellulose) is responsible for specialty cellulose and bioethanol; Borregaard LignoTech (Performance Chemicals) is responsible for lignin-based products and trading activities; Borregaard Synthesis is responsible for fine chemicals and pharmaceuticals; and Borregaard Ingredients is responsible for vanillin products for foodstuffs. Additionally, the Company invests in research and development activities, which are carried out at research centers in Norway, Spain, South Africa and the United States. As of December 31, 2013, the Company owned one direct wholly owned subsidiary, Borregaard AS, and operated factories and sales offices in 16 countries throughout Europe, North and South America, Asia and Africa.
