Ghana GDP Expands 6% in Q4 2012


In the fourth quarter of 2012, Ghana GDP expanded 6 percent year-on-year, pushed by growth in the Services Sector.

Real GDP for the fourth quarter of 2012 grew by 6.0 percent year-on-year.

On a year-on-year basis, the Services recorded the highest growth of 13.7 percent. The main contributors to the Services sector were Information and Communication activities (78.7 percent), Financial and Insurance activities (40.4 percent), and Trade, Repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (14.2 percent).

The Agriculture Sector expanded by 0.6 percent. Crops (including cocoa), Forestry and Livestock subsectors grew by 0.9%, 2.6% and 5.0% respectively.

The Industry sector declined by 3.6%. The main contributors of the Industry sector were Electricity (10.8%), followed by Construction (4.4%), and Water and Sewerage (3.5%).

On a quarter-on-quarter seasonally adjusted basis, real GDP increased 2.1 percent in Q4 2012.

For the full year of 2012, the economy grew by a revised 7.9 percent.
