The FTSE 100 traded slightly higher on Friday, remaining within a narrow range of around ±0.5% as investors stayed cautious amid uncertainty over a lasting agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

Rising oil prices provided some support to energy stocks, with Brent crude climbing for a second session.

BP rose more than 1%, while Shell was little changed.

Precious metals miners also benefited from higher gold prices, with Fresnillo among the strongest performers, gaining more than 2.5%.

Among heavyweight stocks, AstraZeneca and BAE Systems each added around 1%, while GSK and BAT also traded higher.

JD Sports gained after appointing Peter Agnefjäll as chairman, effective September 1.

Meanwhile, Lloyds reported that UK house prices were unchanged in July after rising 0.2% in June, leaving the average property price at £299,253.

Annual growth slowed to 0.1%, its weakest pace since November 2023.
