The FTSE 100 Index Closes 0.28% Lower

The FTSE 100 Index fell 30 points or 0.28 percent on Wednesday to close at 10759 points. Leading the losses are JD Sports Fashion (-3.86%), Kingfisher (-3.04%) and Experian (-2.86%). Top gainers were Endeavour (2.54%), Intercontinental Hotels (1.86%) and Standard Chartered (1.84%).

London’s FTSE 100 extended the previous session’s losses, falling 0.3% to 10,760 on Wednesday and reaching its lowest level in two weeks. The decline came even as gilt losses eased following Prime Minister Andy Burnham’s efforts to reassure markets that the government remains committed to fiscal discipline. Yields, however, remain elevated, as oil prices continued to climb amid escalating conflict in the Middle East. Experian, Reckitt Benckiser and London Stock Exchange Group were among the biggest drags, falling 2.9% to 2.4%. In contrast, miners Endeavour, Fresnillo, Antofagasta and Anglo American surged on higher metal prices, while InterContinental Hotels and Standard Chartered gained almost 2% each. In corporate news, BP appointed Ian Tyler as chair following the surprise departure of Albert Manifold earlier this year. Meanwhile, Ryanair cut its full-year 2027 traffic outlook and warned that European short-haul fares could rise “materially” if elevated oil prices persist.

The FTSE 100 Index is falling 36 points. Losses were driven by Reckitt Benckiser (-1.88%), JD Sports Fashion (-1.81%) and St. Jamess (-1.63%). Biggest rises came from Admiral (1.68%), BT (0.91%) and Aviva (0.85%).
