The FTSE 100 Index Opens 0.21% Higher

The FTSE 100 traded higher on Tuesday, extending its winning streak to six sessions, its longest run of gains since May. Melrose was among the strongest performers, rising more than 8% after the aerospace company announced a $100 million claims programme related to damage at its GKN Aerospace facility in California. A criminal investigation into the incident has been closed, while the site is expected to resume operations next month. Oil prices were only slightly lower after the US unveiled new sanctions targeting businesses involved in Iran’s trade network. The measures, dubbed “Operation Economic Outcast” by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, have affected companies in China and Hong Kong but have so far avoided major Chinese financial institutions. Meanwhile, weakness in both precious and industrial metals weighed on miners.

The FTSE 100 Index is gaining 23 points or 0.21 percent on Tuesday. Leading the gains are Melrose (8.44%), NEXT (1.80%) and Rolls-Royce (1.49%). Top losers are Endeavour (-1.26%), JD Sports Fashion (-1.19%) and London Stock Exchange (-0.85%).

The FTSE 100 Index went up by 42 points or 0.39 percent on Monday to close at 10859 points. The rise was led by Diageo (3.43%), Airtel Africa (2.69%) and Endeavour (2.44%). On the downside, the weakerst performers were BP (-2.86%), Babcock International (-1.99%) and Melrose (-1.74%).
